Every year in June/July, new officers take up their roles as student representatives. This includes a group of brand-new welfare officers.

AMLÉ provides in-depth training on many topics to these new officers prior to the start of the new academic year, and this year’s Student Union Training (SUT) took place in Galway. The AMLÉ Mental Health Programme Manager was delighted to deliver a training session this year.

The training focused on giving a brief overview of the AMLÉ mental health programme, it’s main campaign (the Open Up) campaign, and how welfare officers can help bring this campaign to their campuses. There was then an opportunity for officers to brainstorm ideas for the upcoming year around campaigns they would like to run and ways that they could ensure those campaigns are as impactful as possible.

We would like to welcome all incoming welfare officers to their roles – there was a great energy and enthusiasm in the room during the training session, and we look forward to both working with you and seeing all the amazing work you’re going to do in the coming year!

If you are a student who is struggling with any aspect of their welfare – from mental and physical health to sexual wellbeing to financial issues, please know that the Students’ Union is there to support you. Please go and speak to them, they will be able to help you get the support that you need, no matter what is going on for you.
