The annual Comhdháil (Congress) is an important event in the student union calendar. For a week, representatives from all affiliated colleges gather together to debate motions and discuss important topics. At the 2025 Comhdháil held just before Easter, one motion in particular was passed.

While USI has long been a bilingual organisation, and has always fought for Gaeilge (Irish language) rights through our Leas Uachtarán don Ghaeilge (Vice-President for Irish), and the organisation was known as Union of Students in Ireland (USI)/ Aontas na Mac Léinn in Éirinn (AMLÉ); this motion changed the official name to reflect more emphasis on the Irish language. Therefore USI is now known primarily as AMLÉ.
You will notice that we will no longer being using the acronym USI; and we will be changing our logo – we currently have an interim logo which will be updated in due course. all URLs and email addresses have been changed to reflect this update; however the previous URLs and email addresses can still be used – they will automatically redirect.
